Claude Certification Roadmap: All Four Exams, Fees and Who Can Register

6 min readBy Macdara O Murchu

Anthropic offers four Claude certifications: Claude Certified Associate - Foundations (CCAO-F, USD 99), Claude Certified Developer - Foundations (CCDV-F, USD 125), Claude Certified Architect - Foundations (CCAR-F, USD 125) and Claude Certified Architect - Professional (CCAR-P, USD 175). Only people who work at a Claude Partner Network member organization can register for any of them, and they must sign up with an email address on their company's domain. Each exam runs 120 minutes, is proctored by Pearson VUE online or at a test centre, and is scored on a 100 to 1000 scale with 720 to pass.

The same partner gate applies to all four exams. If your employer is not in the Claude Partner Network, none of the four can be booked at any price. If it is, pick the exam that matches your job: Associate for business users, Developer for people who build on the API, Architect for people who design the system.

Who Can Register

Anthropic's certification FAQ says "Certification is currently available only to organizations in the Claude Partner Network." Registration "requires a partner email address on a recognized company domain", and personal addresses are rejected. Candidates must be 18 or older.

If your company is a member but the academy does not recognise your email domain, the domain has to be added to the partner record first. Anthropic says that "takes 7 to 10 days to take effect." Freelancers, students and staff at non-member firms have no route in today. Our post on who can take the Claude certification exams covers how a firm joins the network.

The Four Exams at a Glance

Claude Certified Associate - Foundations (CCAO-F): 60 items, USD 99. Seven domains, the largest being Output Evaluation and Validation at 21%. Anthropic's exam guide says it is for professionals who use Claude as a work tool, such as operations, marketing, project management and consulting staff, and is "not intended for software developers who build against APIs or design agentic systems."

Claude Certified Developer - Foundations (CCDV-F): 53 items, USD 125. Eight domains, led by Applications and Integration at 33.1%, followed by Model Selection and Optimization at 16.8% and Agents and Workflows at 14.7%. The guide recommends one to five years of software engineering and at least six months of hands-on Claude work, but neither is required.

Claude Certified Architect - Foundations (CCAR-F): 60 items, USD 125. Five domains, the largest being Agentic Architecture and Orchestration at 27%. It is the one scenario-based exam of the four: the guide names six production scenarios and puts four of them, chosen at random, on each exam form.

Claude Certified Architect - Professional (CCAR-P): 63 items, USD 175. Seven domains, led by Integration at 19% and Solution Design and Architecture at 17%. It goes past the build into evaluation, governance, stakeholder communication and lifecycle management.

All four use multiple-choice and multiple-response items, and each multiple-response item tells you how many answers to pick. The FAQ suggests planning for about 135 minutes of seat time against the 120 minutes of exam time.

Fees, Discounts, Retakes and Renewal

List prices in USD are 99 for Associate, 125 each for Developer and Architect - Foundations, and 175 for Architect - Professional. Architect - Foundations was USD 99 until 30 June 2026, when Anthropic raised it to 125, so older articles that quote 99 for it are out of date.

The discount depends on your employer's partner tier. Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners get 50% off at checkout, and Global Premier partners get 100% off every exam through 31 December 2026. Registered, the entry tier for new members, gets no discount.

A retake costs the full fee, with your tier discount applied. After a failed attempt you wait 14 days, then 30 after a second fail and 90 after a third, and you can sit any one exam at most 4 times in a rolling 12 months.

A certification is valid for 12 months. Renewal is a free, non-proctored assessment on Anthropic Partner Academy, provided you renew on time.

Which Exam to Take First

None of the four landing pages on Anthropic Partner Academy lists a prerequisite exam, so you can start wherever your job points. Match the exam to the work you already do.

If you use Claude for writing, research and analysis but do not write code against it, take Associate. It is the cheapest, and its guide says outright that it is not aimed at developers.

If you build applications on the Claude API, the Agent SDK or Claude Code, take Developer. A third of the exam is applications and integration.

If you design agentic systems and make the calls on orchestration, tool design and reliability, take Architect - Foundations. Its scenario format rewards people who have made those calls on real projects. Architect - Professional covers the whole life of a production system, from design through governance to handover, and makes sense as a second exam after Foundations.

For a partner firm there is one more factor. Developer, Architect - Foundations and Architect - Professional count toward the firm's partner tier. Associate does not. A firm working toward a tier will usually want its technical staff on the three exams that count.

How to Prepare

Anthropic publishes an exam guide for each certification with the domains, objectives and a few sample questions that show the format. Partner Academy also runs free prep courses for each exam. There is no official practice exam at the moment: the FAQ says the old one "was retired in the move to Pearson."

That leaves third-party practice for timed, full-length work. Examworthy has a free practice-questions page for each of the four exams, linked above, where every answer option comes with an explanation of why it is right or wrong, and a readiness score per exam domain once you start practising. None of it needs a partner account, so you can prepare while your firm's membership or domain link is still being sorted out.

Four: Claude Certified Associate - Foundations (CCAO-F), Claude Certified Developer - Foundations (CCDV-F), Claude Certified Architect - Foundations (CCAR-F) and Claude Certified Architect - Professional (CCAR-P).

How much does a Claude certification cost?

List prices are USD 99 for Associate, USD 125 for Developer - Foundations, USD 125 for Architect - Foundations and USD 175 for Architect - Professional. Select, Preferred and Global Premier partners get 50% off, and Global Premier partners get 100% off through 31 December 2026.

Is there an official Claude practice exam?
